Flood Map Modernization Program
FEMA Region IX

DFIRM and Levee-Related Outreach Activities

The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). FEMA and its partners develop and provide flood hazard data and maps in support of the NFIP. To update these flood maps, known as Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), FEMA has undertaken a comprehensive effort called Map Modernization (Map Mod).

The Regional Management Center 9 (RMC 9) office of Michael Baker Jr., Inc. provides management and technical support to FEMA Region IX and its partners to help implement Map Mod in Region IX. As part of this effort, RMC 9 is conducting  levee-related outreach activities for northern California counties and Washoe County, NV.  This web site provides public access to information about these outreach activities.

RMC 9 is working in partnership with MAP IX-Mainland (a joint venture led by Dewberry and URS) and Nolte & Associates regarding the ongoing data development, digital FIRM (DFIRM) production, and outreach activities.

DFIRM 101 Workshops

DFIRM 101 workshops are being conducted throughout Region IX. These workshops are designed primarily to educate and inform City and County staff, regarding the benefits and uses of digital, GIS-based, flood hazard data as reflected on countywide DFIRMs. RMC 9 and Region IX staff will demonstrate DFIRM contents and integration into the National Flood Hazard Layer. Community data and DFIRM applications for floodplain management and other tasks will be explored. The level of detail at these workshops will benefit floodplain management and GIS professionals

This web site provides public access to information about these outreach activities including scheduled workshops, a sample agenda, and materials.
